Size/Price Information

When you purchase a hand knitted custom designed sweater, you want to make sure
that it fits properly. But how do you know what
size to order? The following information should be helpful.
First, take a garment that fits, spread it out on a table in front of you and measure it. Then compare the measurements to the information listed below.
Please feel free to ask for adjustments. For instance, if you are tall, you might want to have a sweater knitted for you that has three inches extra length in the body and sleeves. If you are short, you can have shorter sleeves and body. If you could use a little extra room across your middle, please take a look at the Comfort Fit Vest, a classic sweater vest which utilizes a clever knitting technique allowing for extra width and length across the stomach area of a gentlemen's vest or long sleeve sweater.
As everyone knows, cotton sweaters do shrink when they are washed and dried the first time.
Your custom designed sweater will be slightly
larger and longer when you first receive it, to compensate for shrinkage.
All custom knitted sweaters will have standard set-in sleeves, unless you tell me otherwise. This is the usual type of sleeve found on most garments. You might want to take a look at all of the sleeve styles, then click "back" on your browser to return to this page. |

If you are particular about the fit of your sweaters, I encourage you to send me something that fits you, like a
tee shirt or old sweater, so I can measure it. You could include a note when you send it, for instance saying something like, "I'd like my new sweater to be two inches longer in the body and sleeves than this one." That way, I will have the exact measurements to use for the new design. I will return both when the new design is ready. I promise I will take good care of your garment!
When choosing a garment to send to me for measuring, please keep these two things in mind: please don't send me a stretchy garment to measure, like a ribbed sweater (stretchy garments are smaller when spread out flat to measure than when you are actually wearing them), and please make sure that the garment is clean. You would not believe some of the things that people send me!
Due to the width of a home knitting machine, sweaters size extra-large or larger will be knitted in panels.
You can read more about this technique and
see a photo of a sweater actually
knitted using this technique on the page
for
tall or hard-to-fit sizes. |

To measure width: measure straight across the chest, from one side to the other, below the sleeves.
To measure length: measure straight down from the shoulder (close to the neckline) to the bottom edge. To measure sleeve length: measure from the edge of the sleeve where it joins the shoulder, down to the wrist, along the top edge of the sleeve (not the bottom, underarm edge of the sleeve, which is shorter than the top edge). Include the cuff in your measurement.
